Our story
South Africa isn't short on capital for small businesses. Real money has been invested, and real opportunities have been granted — funding, partnerships, access to markets and support many founders wouldn't have had otherwise. That was never the gap. The pattern we kept seeing was what happens after the capital lands: once an opportunity is granted, almost nobody goes back to check how the business is coping, or whether it can handle what it's just been given. Two or three years later, many of those same businesses have closed — not for lack of hard work, but because there were no systems in place to absorb the growth that came with the opportunity.
Across South African small businesses, the same pattern kept showing up. Owners had real ambition, strong work ethics, and genuinely good ideas. Sales were rarely the problem. What was missing was something else: the business, governance and legal grounding needed to carry that growth. Compliance requirements went unmet — not from carelessness, but because no one had ever explained them in plain terms. Record-keeping stayed informal, until the cost of that became too high to ignore.
This is what was throttling growth. Not a shortage of good businesses — a shortage of expertise those businesses could actually reach. Governance and legal knowledge exists, but it's built and priced for companies that already have a legal team or a finance department. Andi Mapogoshe is a legal practitioner with executive governance training and specialist training in monitoring and evaluation. She has spent years working inside highly legislated, regulated environments, and that experience shaped the way she works: systems thinking first. Before recommending any change, she looks at how decisions, finances, people and processes interact within a business — a practical playbook she now brings to business owners. She also brings extensive executive-level experience in institutional governance, financial controls and organisational accountability. That combination is why she founded CSC: to put the same discipline directly in the hands of business owners who don't have a corporate legal or governance team behind them.
